A truly global recognition event
This global incentive draws 250 winners from every market in which our client operates, so our research and proposal was driven by securing the right location, which could offer exclusivity and a creative event programme, whilst having sufficient air access to ensure that no participant would be more than two flights away from the destination. A further complication to the logistics and planning was that all travel was in business class and our client has a corporate travel policy of maximum twenty employees per flight and no executive team members are permitted to travel on the same aircraft. As this is the premier incentive for the whole company, hosted by the CEO and executive team, extreme VIP treatment is expected at every point of the winner’s journey.
We proposed three distinct destinations, including Oman. We first saw this destination over twenty years ago and were instantly swayed by its charm. The Sultanate is relatively undiscovered, having really only started to emerge from its ‘hermit-like’ state in the 1970’s.
Based on client feedback and our own cost analysis from the previous events, we undertook a full review of pricing and negotiated route-deals into Muscat to ensure that we drove air costs to maintain budget integrity. We recommended a buy-out of the exclusive and luxurious Shangri-La Al-Husn Hotel, set in a stunning beach resort location. With a dramatic landscape, seascape and heritage, there is no shortage of opportunities to deliver ‘authentic’ creative experiences and we built a programme that provided a balance of relaxation, optional activities and ‘fun’ evening events.
We utilised many of the outside spaces at the hotel to create themed dinners – from poolside, to beach, to the open-air amphitheatre – each enhanced by entertainment , special décor and lighting. We also arranged and managed regional and executive-hosted ‘dine-arounds’ in multiple restaurants and venues.
As with all events, we analysed the prior year’s feedback to identify any individual aspects of the event which we felt that we could improve upon and reflected this in the programme. Our approach is always to recognise that a group is made up of individuals; we always seek to achieve the highest level of personalisation.
We received outstanding feedback from the client, as well as from the feedback questionnaire, completed by all of the guests. On the basis of our delivery, the client contracted our services to deliver the next two events. Critically, we brought this event in under-budget and this was repeated on the following year’s event.
