Change Management Programme
Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust
Objectives
The restructuring of eight primary care trusts (PCTs) into two created a single management team that faced multiple challenges. Leaders were faced with a £90m budget deficit and needed to reshape the PCTs into high-performing organisations. They asked us to help them tackle poor staff morale, win hearts and minds by engaging employees with a vision and set of values, and to communicate more creatively and consistently by working more cohesively as a leadership team.
Our Response
We created an engaging visual identity for the change programme and worked with directors to create a vision and set of values that were communicated to all 3,600 staff over a rolling programme of 30 events. A reward and recognition toolkit was designed and distributed to encourage managers to thank and recognise individuals who demonstrated organisational values on a daily basis.
The Result
Employees say they feel the organisation’s leaders are more visible, accessible and approachable. Staff believe the culture is becoming more ‘can do’ and confident, and they feel appreciated and recognised for the work they do. More staff are using the intranet to keep up to date on changes that are happening. This was a positive start, and we continue to work with Hertfordshire PCTs to embed the new vision and values within the organisation.
